On 27 November 2024, Regulation (EU) 2024/3015 (Forced Labour Regulation) was published, aimed at eradicating products made with forced labour from the EU market. The Forced Labour Regulation represents a significant step in the EU's commitment to upholding human rights and promoting ethical supply chains.

 On 26 February 2025, the European Commission presented its long-awaited Omnibus package, purportedly aimed at simplifying a range of EU regulations, with a particular focus on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The revisions respond to mounting pressure from businesses and governments, who argue that the current regulatory framework is overly complex and imposes excessive administrative burdens to ensure compliance.

Zielsetzung des Maßnahmenpaketes ist es, durch die Erweiterung bestehender bzw. die Einführung neuer allgemeiner Genehmigungen zur Ausfuhr bzw. Verbringung bestimmter Rüstungs- und Dual-Use-Güter die Anzahl anhängiger Genehmigungsanträge beim BAFA deutlich zu verringern. Zugleich sollen jene Anträge, die eine umfassende Einzelfallprüfung erfordern, schneller bearbeitet werden.

On 14 November, the European Parliament voted in favor of a 12-month postponement for the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The approval aims to move the regulation's original application deadline of 30 December 2024 to 30 December 2025, and for micro and small enterprises, to 30 June 2026. However, this postponement is not yet final, as it still requires further debate in the trilogue negotiations involving the Parliament, the Council and the Commission.

In today’s briefing, we examine the key considerations with respect to the EU’s corporate sustainability package for companies operating outside the EU but that have business ties in the EU. Specifically, we will address the direct and indirect impacts for non-EU companies of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and other related regulations mentioned along the series, including the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), as well as the upcoming Forced Labour Regulation and Green Claims Directive .
